A priest, church windows, & divination
Evelyn Deshane
Painted shards of glass make a mosaic of your name
I will become a sword swallower, so I can take you whole
as a sideshow attraction; I will draw crowds & silver dollars
for my deep pockets and eye sockets. The jewels you left
inside my mouth have turned to stone, & when you leave
diamonds bloom under my skin. The water from the river
our travelling band walks is clear. I see the future inside of
it & your prophecies are all wrong but one. I will return
on the eve of your son’s birth & I will destroy the family name.
