to put aside all fear

to put aside all fear – Jennifer Mace

I have cradled
this berry
in the palms of
my hands.

it is heavy
with seeds.

one day I will plant it
in the dirt beneath my fingernails
and watch as the roots unfurl
beneath my skin.

in the thudding roar
of iron, I
will be cored through
like a waterfall,
embraced
as a mountain is
by lichen.
